Most
parents take libraries for granted. And why
not? It seems so basic to the needs of a school and to education.
You’d think it would go without saying that the state would require
a school to have a library and would assume the costs. But you’d be
wrong. The state of California does not require libraries or pay for
librarians--and without librarians, you don’t have much of a
library.
Fortunately, you have MBEF. A good part of the money we spend
every year ($258,761 to be exact) goes to pay librarians’ salaries
at each and every one of our schools.
The same goes for technology: MBEF pays for a computer teacher in
each elementary school. It also pays for a Tech Director and a Lab
Specialist at Mira Costa, and recently was part of a community-wide
initiative to raise the level of technology in all schools. We spend
($261,024) a year so our kids can keep up with technology.
Please help us help your kids. Whether you can give a little or a
lot, please give. Either way, it’ll be one for the books.
