2008-2009 Honor Roll of Donors
Every MBEF Donation Made a Difference, Thank you!
A record-breaking 2,775 donors gave to MBEF in our 2008-2009 fiscal year. Donations topped $4.1 million, a one-year fundraising record for MBEF and possibly any other California education foundation. The success is a tale of two campaigns and some very supportive parents.
The 2008-2009 Annual Appeal raised over $2.8 million, the most successful in our history. But by the end of the Appeal in January, the state’s financial crisis had pulled the rug out from under our children. It would take millions more to make up the funds Sacramento took away and to maintain core academics—let alone sustain the “extra” programs, like science labs and music, we’d built up over the years. So for the first time in many years, we asked people who had already been unbelievably generous to try to dig deeper. This was the Supplemental Appeal, and the response to it was awe-inspiring. In just six weeks an additional $1.3 million came in from all corners: from a family who donated for the fifteenth year in a row, even though their child was graduating, to birthday boys and a graduating senior who asked for donations to MBEF instead of gifts, to our ever generous PTA partners and so many, many others.
